Bio

"Our goal in ESOL class is to improve our

Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing everyday!"

I am the ESOL teacher at Bright Star Elementary School.  ESOL stands for English Speakers of Other Languages. Bright Star has a varied array of cultures and languages unlike any other school in the county. I love my job and I feel like I ended up in the perfect position for me.

I hold three degrees in Early Childhood Education:

  • B.A. from The State University of West Georgia in 1996
  • M.A. from Piedmont College in 2000
  • Ed.S. from Georgia State University in 2011

I earned my ESOL endorsement, my Reading Endorsement, and my Reading Specialist Certification between college degrees. I believe learning is a lifelong process.  I plan to continue learning to improve my teaching for my entire career. My education is the one thing that can never be taken away from me, and I try to instill that in my students.

I am a certified Reading Specialist, so I am qualified to teach Reading from Kindergarten through twelfth grade. I use the knowledge gained through my studies to teach Reading, Writing, Speaking, and Listening to children who are exposed to more than one language during their years of language development.

I have various experience teaching prior to finding my perfect fit teaching here at Bright Star:

  • 1996-3rd Grade student teacher at Carrollton Elementary School
  • 1997-2nd Grade SIA teacher at Carrollton Elementary School
  • 1998-2nd Grade teacher at Burnett Elementary School
  • 1999-2006-Kindergarten teacher at Winston Elementary School
  • 2006-2010-First Grade teacher at Winston Elementary School
  • 2010-2012-Fifth Grade Writing and Language Arts teacher at Mason Creek Elementary School
  • 2012-present-ESOL teacher at Bright Star Elementary

I love teaching ESOL and feel I have truly found my place here at Bright Star. I love my students and the families of the students that I teach. You will be able to find me at Bright Star for years to come.
