Are you looking for additional educational resources for your child?  Would you like to see your child exchange his/her video games for educational electronic games?  Well, search no further!  The Parent Resource Center has just what you're looking for!  The center provides supplemental resources for Bright Star students and their families.  You will find educational games, math manipulatives, reading activities, parenting materials and much, much more!  Come and visit today!  The Parent Resource Center is open daily from 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. in the Media Center.  Additional hours are available by contacting Ms. Tenia Boone at 770-651-3470 for additional information. 


Bright Star Title I Parent and Family Engagement Activities

September 7, 2017--Time:  8:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.

Annual Title 1 Meeting-This meeting will provide parents with information about Bright Star Elementary and the Title I program. Parents will be informed on topics such as the budget, input, and purpose of Title I.


September 8, 2017-- Time: 8:30  a.m. 

Parent Meeting #1  Building Fluent Readers-This meeting will discuss various literacy components. Parents will be provided strategies that they can implement at home to increase their children's reading fluency and comprehension. 


September 12, 2017--Time: 5:30-7:00 p.m.

Parent Meeting #2: K-5 Curriculum Night The curriculum for each level taught at Bright Star ES will be shared with parents using the Georgia Standards of Excellence. Bright Star teachers will communicate the content of the K-5th grade curriculum in all subject areas. In addition, the teachers will discuss the changes in the standards. 


Novemeber 16, 2017--(Lunch and Learn/Times will vary due to lunch.)

Parent Meeting #3 Numbers Sense November Parents will be invited to eat lunch with their children. Grade levels will determine the time that they would like to conduct the math make and take workshops with parents. Parents will learn about the importance of Number Sense and strategies that can be implemented at home to ensure that each student is successful in the area of math. 


December 13, 2017--Time: 6:00 p.m.

Parent Meeting #4: Diving into Data: Parents will be provided information about the data that is collected for the students at Bright Star. Parents wil; be given tools and resources to help them better understand the purpose of CCRPI and ways that they can help Bright Star continue to shine each year. 


February 15, 2018--5:30-7:00 p.m.

Parent Meeting #5: Georgia Milestones Informational for Grades 3-5 Parents: Parents of students in Grades 3-5 will be invited to learn about the Georgia Milestones Assessment. They will learn the benefits of this assessment, strategies that they can do at home to help their child prepar for the assessment, and how to understand the score report.

Parent Meeting #6: Suessical Reading: In honor of Read Across America and Dr. Suess, parents will be invited to a day filled with make and takes for strategies to improve or enhance your child's reading at home. 


March 17, 2018--11:00 a.m.

Parent Meeting #7: Title I Mini Expo (In collaboration with Chestnut Log, North Douglas, and Stewart) 

Parents will be invited to a mini expo to learn about what Title I has to offer them and their children. Parents will be provided tips to enrich their child's academics in Reading, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. In addition, parents who were not able to attend the Annual Title I Meeting in the Fall will be offered information about Title I.

Parent Meeting #8: Bright Star's STEAMING in the right direction:

STEAM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math education. We focus on these areas together not only because the skills and knowledge in each discipline are essential for student success, but also because these fields are deeply intertwined in the real world and how students learn most effectively. You will not leave empty handed!
