Principal's Bio

Principal

I was born and raised in southern Florida.  My father was a commercial fisherman with only a 7th grade education.  He instilled in me the importance of an education. With the  help of my husband and children, I fufilled my dream of graduating from college in 1990 from Kennesaw State College.  I continued my education and received a Masters Degree and Specialists Degree in Educational Leadership from State University of West Georgia.

I have been teaching for 17 years.  All of my teaching experience is with the Douglas County School System.  My first teaching opportunity was at Eastside Elementary in second grade.  I had the wonderful opportunity to work at Eastside for 8 years.  During that time, I worked with second grade students and with first graders through the Reading Recovery Program.

When Bright Star Elementary opened in 1997, I was assigned here as a remedial education program teacher.  I worked with students in grades 1-5 for one and half years.  At that time, I was chosen as the assistant principal.  When Mrs. M. Dowland retired, I was chosen principal of Bright Star.

Bright Star is a wonderful school community.  Our parents, students, teachers and staff work together to increase student achievement in a very caring environment.  It is my pleasure to serve all of the stakeholders of the Bright Star Community.
